Origins: A place of passage for the Anishinabe

Territorial recognition

We wish to recognize that the village of St-Albert is located and operates on unceded and non-abandoned aboriginal territory of the Anishinaabe Nation and the Kanien’kahà:ka Nation. It is important for us to emphasize the unique and enduring relationship between the First Peoples and this traditional territory.

In addition to becoming aware of the territory we live on, we want to reiterate the importance of actively working to become an ally in Aboriginal struggles. This journey leads us to reflect and learn about aboriginal causes. We are committed to recognizing, respecting and supporting First Nations, Métis and Inuit people by walking alongside them.

Mother Earth is home to First Nations, Métis, Inuit and all non-Aboriginal people. It is in this spirit of sharing that our community pledges to protect the land, the waters, the animals and to contribute to mutual respect in the interest of future generations.
